It was so great to see Elton John at this most exuberant time in his life. New baby and new movie. Watch the video above and you’ll see what I mean.
I’m sure by now you saw the huge smile on his face as he’s holding his brand new baby, Zachary, on the cover of US Weekly. But, in an ironic twist that same cover was censored by a grocery store in Arkansas, which sparked some shock and sadness this week. Fortunately, the store has since removed the shield they had placed over the cover and apologized.
This incident brought to mind something Elton said when talking about his new film “Gnomeo and Juliet” which is a take-off on the classic Shakespeare play with Blue versus Red Gnomes rather than the Montagues versus the Capulets.
“As I grow older it saddens me to see a country that I love so much having such a gulf between people sometimes that they don’t meet in the middle and talk and put their differences aside. I think this is a storyline saying that we should all get on.”
And he furthered the point with this example.
“I played a Proposition 8 concert the other night and the two great lawyers, who are fighting for same sex relationship recognition in California, one is a staunch Republican, and one is a staunch Democrat. They met and they both think this is the right thing to do. That is what life is all about. It’s not about hatred.”
